More InformationTHE CHALLENGE
In April 2025, a fire broke out at the FANUC Gyeongin Technical Center in Korea, causing extensive damage across the facility, including the factory, showroom, and training center.
The site is a complex, multi-functional environment where production, training and operational spaces co-exist. The incident posed significant risks:
- Contamination and corrosion of precision robots and machining equipment
- Damage across 7 floors from basement to upper levels
- Potential secondary damage due to soot, humidity and residues
- Disruption to critical operations and technical activities
A highly specialised recovery approach was required to address both building and sensitive equipment restoration simultaneously
THE RESPONSE
FANUC engaged BELFOR Korea, the global leader in disaster recovery, to deliver a comprehensive ONE-STOP restoration solution.
BELFOR Korea responded immediately with a structured and technically advanced approach:
- Rapid mobilisation and full-scale recovery across 7 floors, including basement and above-ground levels
- Corrosion prevention and humidity control using specialised chemicals to protect sensitive equipment
- Disassembly, cleaning, and precision restoration of robots and machining systems
- Off-site restoration of critical components in a controlled workshop environment
- Structural safety assessment prior to building restoration
- Parallel execution of mechanical, electrical, firefighting, and communication works to accelerate recovery timeline
- Final commissioning and performance checks to ensure full operational readiness
Throughout the project, BELFOR Korea maintained transparent communication, providing daily and weekly updates and establishing an on-site office for rapid coordination.
THE RESULTS
BELFOR Korea successfully restored both the facility and its critical equipment, delivering strong business outcomes:
- Complete restoration of a complex, multi-use technical facility
- Successful recovery of high-value robots and precision machining equipment
- Prevention of secondary damage through proactive corrosion and contamination control
- Accelerated project timeline through parallel execution of restoration works
- Safe recommissioning of the entire facility with verified operational performance
The project’s success was formally recognised when BELFOR Korea received a plaque of appreciation from senior executives of FANUC Korea in February 2026, reflecting high customer satisfaction and trust.
