In June 2025, a fire broke out in the electrical room of Kumho Petrochemical’s Yeosu No. 1 Synthetic Rubber Plant.
The fire damaged low-voltage electrical panels and electrical cables. Soot generated by the fire and water used during firefighting also penetrated the electrical equipment, creating a risk of ongoing corrosion. Without immediate decontamination, the contamination could have caused further secondary damage and potentially resulted in an extended shutdown of the entire production line.
