BELFOR Saves Library Funds And Books
Central School Library in Escondido suffered a weekend storm in March that flooded the facility. Nearly 2,000 books, both hardcover and paperback, were damaged in the Spanish language section. Two BELFOR California offices coordinated efforts, and using state-of-the-art techniques were able to cost-effectively save all but 45. Paul Harte of San Diego supervised the site work, including packing the library’s volumes and Mike Beardsley processed the books in San Francisco. The replacement value of the hardbacks would have been approximately $20 each, and paperbacks would have been nearly $10. BELFOR San Diego estimated a cost of $2.50 each for vacuum freeze-drying -- a significant savings.
