BELFOR Modesto was officially welcomed to the city by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, City Council and many other supportive community members on March 5, 2015. During the opening ceremony, California 12th District Assembly Member Kristin Olsen presented a Certificate of Recognition to BELFOR representatives General Manager Grant Cody, Project Manager George Halpin and Project Manager Harm Hilvers.

Ribbon-cutting guests toured the new facility and enjoyed refreshments with the help of BELFOR’s team.

BELFOR San Fernando Valley Participates In Annual ABC7 Toy Drive pointer

BELFOR San Fernando Valley was proud to be a participant and contributor in the Annual ABC7 Spark of Love Stuff-A-Bus event, lead by Head Elf and Weathercaster Garth Kemp. BELFOR’s Jeanie La Croix and the Community Association Institute (CAI-GLAC) Outreach Committee worked like Santa’s elves to collect as many toys as they could for the local children. After the final count was tallied, a new record for the Westfield Topanga Canyon Mall location was set. More than 10 buses were filled with gifts.

The San Fernando Valley office was able to accomplish the record with the cooperation and contributions of committee members and clients. In addition, BELFOR generously donated toys, electronics and stuffed animals for children in need. More information about the event can be found on the ABC7 Community Facebook page.

BELFOR Restores Moon Quarantine Facility

BELFOR San Francisco was contacted by the curator of the USS Hornet Museum to restore a historical artifact from the Apollo 11 Mission. The artifact was the Mobile Quarantine Facility, MQF, where astronauts stayed in the days immediately after the moon mission for decontamination. The BELFOR team was honored to assist and mobilized quickly to meet a very short deadline before the MQF needed to be on display for Splashdown 45.

Splashdown 45 is a one-day festival at the USS Hornet Museum, celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and man’s first steps on the moon. USS HORNET (CVS-12) was the primary recovery ship for the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 lunar landing missions. To read more about the event, click Splashdown 45.

BELFOR Sacramento Repairs Gallo Center pointer

In June, the staff from the Gallo Center of the Arts arrived to find the facility affected by a major water event that damaged walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture. The county contacted BELFOR Sacramento to begin selective demolition, cleaning and mitigation. BELFOR Project Manager George Halpin and his team worked around-the-clock, 24/7, to complete the mitigation so repairs could begin as soon as possible.

BELFOR is currently in the process of completing the reconstruction portion of the project and the Gallo Center of Arts is already open for business.

Excerpt from the Modesto Bee, Sacramento CA, June 26, 2014:

Repairs from extensive water damage got underway this week at the Gallo Center for the Arts, and officials plan to have the venue back to as good as new by the end of August.

“While I’m impatient by nature, I’m very pleased with the progress,” said Gallo Center CEO Lynn Dickerson. “The project has been handled very well by the county and BELFOR. It’s impressive to see how much has been done and how tidy they are in a very messy job.”

BELFOR Saves Library Funds And Books pointer

When a storm flooded the Central School Library in Escondido, nearly 2,000 books, both hardcover and paperback, were damaged in the Spanish language section. Two BELFOR California offices coordinated efforts, and using state-of-the-art techniques were able to cost-effectively save all but 45. BELFOR San Diego supervised the site work, including packing the library’s volumes, and BELFOR San Francisco processed the books. The replacement value of the hardbacks would have been approximately $20 each, and paperbacks would have been nearly $10. BELFOR San Diego estimated a cost of $2.50 each for vacuum freeze-drying -- a significant savings.
