Factory Flood Restoration Case Study: 69 Production Equipment Units Restored in 42 Working Days

In November 2025, record-breaking heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in Hat Yai, southern Thailand, affecting the manufacturing facility of Semperflex Asia. Floodwaters breached the factory’s flood barriers and entered the production areas, reaching a depth of approximately 70 cm. Critical assets, including production machinery and electrical control panels, were submerged, forcing the factory to suspend operations.

BELFOR’s restoration specialists responded promptly to the site, assessed the condition of the facility and affected equipment, and developed a restoration plan aligned with the customer’s target production restart schedule.

With a team of experienced restoration specialists and specialized equipment deployed on site, BELFOR successfully restored 69 pieces of production equipment and the affected manufacturing lines in just 42 days. The customer was able to resume production operations approximately 1.5 months after the flooding incident.

Severe Flooding Submerged the Factory’s Production Areas

From November 19 to 27, 2025, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in Hat Yai, Thailand. On November 24, rising floodwaters overtopped the flood barriers at Semperflex Asia’s manufacturing facility and entered the production areas. Water levels inside the factory reached approximately 70 cm above floor level, submerging critical production machinery, electrical control panels, and associated equipment.

Semperflex Asia manufactures hydraulic and industrial hoses for a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, construction, agriculture, mining, and infrastructure. Prolonged production downtime could have disrupted supply schedules and affected business operations.

The key priority was to assess which flood-damaged equipment could be restored, recover viable machinery as quickly as possible, and enable the factory to resume production.

Q. Does All Flood-Damaged Production Equipment Need to Be Replaced?

그렇지는 않습니다.

Flood-damaged production equipment may be restored depending on its condition. Before deciding whether restoration is possible, it is important to assess the equipment’s structure, the extent of water exposure, and the condition of its electrical and electronic components. Equipment deemed suitable for restoration can then undergo specialized precision cleaning by BELFOR’s equipment restoration team.

In this project, rather than replacing all critical production equipment with new machinery, BELFOR assessed the condition of the affected assets and identified those suitable for restoration. This approach reduced the time required to procure replacement equipment and helped the factory resume operations sooner.

BELFOR Developed a Restoration Strategy Immediately Upon Arrival

Semperflex Asia contacted BELFOR Thailand on November 30, 2025, to request restoration services. BELFOR promptly deployed restoration specialists to assess the extent of flooding and the condition of the affected equipment. Based on the initial assessment and the customer’s target production restart date, BELFOR developed a comprehensive restoration plan. In early December, specialized restoration personnel and equipment were mobilized to the site, and restoration work began.

The restoration scope extended beyond production machinery. BELFOR also assessed machine control panels, electrical systems, and associated production equipment, carrying out restoration work tailored to the condition of each asset.

Q. Why Are Electrical Control Panels Critical in Flood-Damaged Production Equipment Restoration?

Modern production equipment relies on the integrated operation of mechanical components and electrical and electronic control systems. Even if a machine appears undamaged externally, this does not necessarily mean it can operate safely or correctly. At the Semperflex Asia facility, floodwaters affected not only production machinery but also electrical control cabinets and associated electrical systems. BELFOR therefore included the control panels and electrical systems in the overall equipment restoration scope, addressing both mechanical and electrical components. The project photographs show the contaminated interiors of electrical control panels following the flood, alongside the condition of electrical and electronic components after restoration work was completed.

Close Collaboration with the Customer’s Engineers Accelerated Restoration

Restoring a large manufacturing facility requires close collaboration between the customer’s technical teams and restoration specialists. The customer’s engineers and maintenance personnel have the most detailed knowledge of the equipment, its configuration, and the production processes. BELFOR worked closely with Semperflex Asia’s engineering, maintenance, and production teams throughout the project. Together, they assessed equipment conditions, established restoration priorities, and adjusted work schedules to prioritize critical machinery needed to resume production.

69 Pieces of Production Equipment Restored and Operations Resumed

The project successfully restored 69 pieces of production equipment and associated manufacturing lines, enabling the facility to resume production. The restoration was completed in approximately 1.5 months (42 working days). Rather than replacing all critical machinery with new equipment, BELFOR restored assets that were suitable for recovery. This approach helped reduce equipment replacement costs and procurement lead times while minimizing production downtime. Semperflex Asia was able to resume production within its target timeframe.

공장 침수 복구의 목표는 배수가 아닙니다

For manufacturing facilities affected by flooding, removing floodwater is only the first step. Restoring production operations requires a thorough assessment of machinery, electrical control panels, and electrical systems to determine which assets can be safely restored. The process must then progress from equipment assessment and restoration to testing and the safe resumption of operations. This project demonstrates BELFOR’s integrated approach to industrial flood damage restoration, managing the entire recovery process under a coordinated plan: Site Assessment → Restoration Strategy → Production Equipment and Electrical System Restoration → Resumption of Operations

BELFOR Korea provides specialized restoration services for factories and industrial facilities affected by fire, flooding, and industrial contamination.
