Sustainability is in our DNA
As the world’s largest damage restoration company, we aim not only to make buildings or machinery usable again after a loss, but also to help preserve the foundations of life for future generations. Our business model inherently supports this ambition: restoration is almost always more resource-efficient than replacement or new construction. But we do not rely on this advantage alone. Instead, our goal is to restore damage in a way that minimizes additional impact on the environment wherever possible.
Our path to climate neutrality
The EU Green Deal and the requirements of the CSRD set clear parameters for a climate-neutral and transparent economy. BELFOR aligns its climate targets consistently with these frameworks and is systematically advancing the reduction of its own emissions – in the interest of our customers, employees and partners.
Carbon Reduction Plan: clear goals, clear responsibility
BELFOR UK has adopted a Carbon Reduction Plan. In it, we affirm our commitment to the Paris Agreement and to the objectives of the European Green Deal. Our ambition is to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.
2022 serves as our base year, as this was the first year in which a complete Scope 1, 2 and 3 report was available for all activities. For Scope 1, 2 and 3, we aim to reduce absolute emissions by at least 90% by 2050. Any remaining residual emissions will be offset where necessary through high-quality, permanent CO₂ removals.
Scope 1, 2 & 3 at BELFOR UK: our priorities
For BELFOR UK, the Scope 1, 2 & 3 footprint for 2022 (market-based) amounts to 5669 t CO₂e.
- Scope 1 accounts for 29% (1665 t CO₂e)
- Scope 2 accounts for 1% (6 t CO₂e)
- Scope 3 accounts for 70% (4003 t CO₂e)
The data clearly show where we have the greatest levers. This enables us to focus our climate action measures in a targeted and impact-oriented way – with particular attention to the fleet and energy supply in Scope 1 and Purchased Goods and Services in Scope 3. In doing so, we create a robust foundation for measurable improvements that we document transparently and continue to develop step by step.
Carbon Neutrality
From 2022 BELFOR UK has also operated as a carbon neutral company, this includes our operational services. Having completed ISO14064 Scope 1, 2 and 3 Carbon Footprint we have then gone on to purchase CDM Registry carbon credits to match our emissions.
Accreditations & Commitment
BELFOR UK recognize that whilst we work towards our sustainability goals we must also demonstrate our commitment. We therefore have completed the following
- ISO14001 – Achieved UKAS certified during 2023
- SBTi – Pledged near term, long term and net zero targets during 2022
- Ecovadis – Achieved certification during 2024
- NCZ Gold – Achieved certification during 2024
Sustainability as a broader responsibility
For BELFOR, sustainability is multi-dimensional. Alongside climate protection and resource efficiency, we also act with economic responsibility, secure jobs for the long term and commit to full legal compliance in all markets in which we operate.
Climate action in practice
In our operations, we reduce the environmental and climate impacts of our work – for example by using energy-efficient equipment and environmentally compatible products and technologies in damage restoration. Digital solutions also help us conserve resources and make processes even more efficient.
Life Cycle Assessments
Since 2023 BELFOR UK have completed life cycle assessments (LCA) of our operational projects with the aim to understanding the carbon footprint of the projects we undertake. We have completed LCA’s across all business streams and all perils so that we can create accurate representation based on the type of property and the type of peril. This then allows us to share information with our Clients so that they can improve their Scope 3 carbon footprint accuracy. From completing the LCA we are then able to highlight and focus on where we can make improvements to continually improve and reduce our Carbon Footprint.
360° Damage Scan
The BELFOR 360° Damage Scan creates a virtual twin of the damage in just minutes – in high-resolution 4K quality, fully navigable and available anytime. Precise floor plans, automatic media output, and contactless assessment eliminate unnecessary trips, saving emissions. Documentation and progress tracking become faster, easier, and more resource-efficient.
DRYsmart®
With BELFOR DRYsmart®, water damage drying becomes digital, energy-efficient, and climate-friendly. Whether cavity, screed insulation, or room drying – the system uses up to 35% less energy than conventional methods, significantly reducing energy costs* and CO₂ footprint. Over 1,000 successful projects demonstrate the technology’s practical value.
SRF process
The SRF process is a water-free – and therefore particularly resource-saving – eco-friendly alternative to chemical cleaning of walls, ceilings, and wooden surfaces. It gently removes soot and other heavy contamination without leaving residues. SRF binds pollutants, protects materials from penetration by contaminants, and generates only minimal waste – maximizing material and environmental protection while saving significant amounts of water.
