El Ni\u00f1o Vs. La Ni\u00f1a: What\u2019s The Difference?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

El Ni\u00f1o and La Ni\u00f1a are opposite phases of the El Ni\u00f1o-Southern Oscillation (ESNO) climate phenomenon, with El Ni\u00f1o being the warm phase and La Ni\u00f1a being the cool phase. The ENSO climate pattern irregularly shifts back and forth every two to seven years, resulting in fluctuating temperatures among Pacific Ocean currents, particularly the currents called trade winds. In normal conditions, the trade winds blow westward and bring warm water from South America to Asia. Cold water rises upward in a process known as \u201cupwelling,\u201d replacing the warm water.
