BELFOR Malaysia was proud to sponsor the Kuala Lumpur Claims Forum 2026, organized by MDD and held on October 8 at the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel. Under the theme \u201cThe Next Wave of Claims: Emerging Risks, New Technologies and What Comes Next,\u201d<\/em> the forum brought together insurers, reinsurers, brokers, loss adjusters, and risk professionals from across Malaysia\u2019s claims community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A packed afternoon of insights<\/strong>
The program covered some of the most pressing issues facing the industry today, from Malaysia\u2019s evolving risk landscape and the critical decisions made in the first 72 hours of a major claim, to managing business interruption losses from a forensic accounting perspective. The day closed with a lively panel discussion on the future of claims and the next generation of risk professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lessons from a hydropower flood recovery<\/strong>
Guido Gavio, Asia Complex Loss Director at BELFOR Malaysia, presented a case study on one of BELFOR\u2019s recent major loss projects: the recovery of a hydropower facility in Laos after Typhoon Bualoi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When floodwater carrying silt, oil, and debris entered the powerhouse, all three generator units were submerged, putting the plant at risk of prolonged downtime. Guido walked the audience through how BELFOR\u2019s team worked alongside the customer and the original equipment manufacturer to decontaminate, dry, and test the generators, bus ducts, and other critical electrical equipment. Through a phased restart, all three units were brought back into service and the facility\u2019s full generation capacity was restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
