A brick built workshop within the main production area housing heated baths of acid, used since the 1960’s for precision processes such as glass etching.

Incident description
A large fire occurred in the ‘acid room’ of the factory.
Description of services provided
Decontamination of main factory roof area, measuring approximately 8,500 sq ft.
Benefits

SRF (Soot Removal Film) was used for decontamination. As the procedure is almost water free, there is no further penetration of chloride into the concrete, no draining of cleaning agents, and only minor job preparation compared to water based methods.

Hospital Suffers Arson Attack

Depending on the urgency of the departments to be operational the building structure decontamination was split into four phases:

- Phase One - Imaging Area (6 x-ray rooms & 22 other consulting rooms & offices),
- Phase Two - Orthopaedic Area
- Phase Three - Chest Clinic and area including consulting rooms and offices
- Phase Four - Dental and Eye Department including consulting rooms and offices

Incident description
Arson attack in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department of the hospital.
Description of services provided

The problems that BELFOR had to immediately address were:

- high chloride levels, resulting in corrosion
- odour throughout the whole building
- damage to the film development department
- X-rays, patient files and consultants own medical equipment required on an 'as and when basis' when meeting patients.

Benefits

It was imperative that all areas were operating as soon as possible, particularly the imaging department as it handled all x-rays for the entire hospital. To get the hospital operational 25 technicians were onsite for 20 days working continuous extended day shifts.

Fire hits Manufacturing Plant

The remaining offices and production facility were contaminated by smoke including the building structure and contents.

A large fire occurred in the Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) production area.

Benefits

PC Henderson’s had to continue production to meet deadlines for important contracts. However, the steelwork above the rolling mill and press area showed high levels of contamination and needed cleaning immediately. BELFOR addressed this by constructing a birdcage scaffold allowing work to be carried out safely at height whilst production continued below uninterrupted.

Royal Mint facility suffered a fire in the nickel plating plant. This is a separate building contained within the colossal 35 acre site and much like other buildings within the facility is built to withstand many forms of attack. This unusual type of building presented a challenge for BELFOR.

Drying on a Large Scale

Large construction project located in the heart of central London
Incident description
The construction project encompassed the conversion of the historic Marconi House from offices into luxury apartments. The apartments varied in size and were spread over 9 storeys, totalling approximately 6400m2. The main conversion was being carried out by Galliard Homes Ltd, with the roof construction the responsibility of a third party supplier. Unfortunately during the work on the roof a fire broke out causing damage to Galliard’s project on the floors below.

Specialist, large scale drying.
Benefits
Galliard were extremely pleased with the works undertaken with the final results providing an almost pre-incident condition allowing reconstruction works to continue unhindered, permitting the schedule to get back on track.

Phoenix from the flames
Client:
Peckforton Castle
Location:
Cheshire

Grade 1 listed, medieval style castle, built in the middle of the nineteenth century
Incident description
devastating fire ripped through the east wing of the building, causing damage to the Castle's stunning great hall, long gallery bar, drawing room, library and bedrooms.
Description of services provided
Specialist decontamination using SRF.
Benefits
Peckforton Castle is asought after venue therefore closing was not an option. Whilst some of the east wing was out of action, most areas were open for business as usual. It was vital the building restoration could be undertaken without hindering the everyday running of the venues activities, whilst also keeping the disruption to a minimum for the guests.
